You have to be a ‘people person’ most definitely, but it’s also about business and marketing, marketing, marketing. You won’t walk out of school, hang up a sign and have a business going. You never stop promoting yourself, everywhere you go and everyone you meet. Depending on what you decide to do (spa, chiro office, shop) you may have a full schedule one day and no one the next. If you’re an independent contractor working on a percentage, you’ll have days where you make no money at all. I still have days like that! You’ll never get rich doing it but you can make a living if you are determined, work hard and have a good touch. It can take several years to build up a reliable clientele, be prepared for that.

Being a massage therapists has little to do with having a great smile or even working with people and their bodies. It is how well you take care of yourself.
You do have to know anatomy, physiology, pathology and some technical things but being a successful massage therapists is 10% techniques and knowledge and 90% about who you are and your beliefs about success.

I tried to become a physical therapist but was unaware of how much physical labor is involved. It is very physically taxing. Also, most therapists do not make their living by massage alone.

Massage therapy is for people who love to work with their hands and use some critical thinking skills in the process. You probably won’t get rich being a massage therapist, but it’s an honest living.
